Gail Wiggins is a busy woman, but she takes time for her health. With the demands of raising her teenage son and a high-stress job at the Department of Homeland Security, staying healthy and managing stress is a priority for Gail. She takes walks during her lunch break and meditates twice a week for 30 minutes.
The 46-year old single mom joined the Heart and Style Big Rewards program to lose weight. She is at risk for heart disease and is currently taking medication for high cholesterol. “My goal is to lose 30 pounds and get off Lipitor.”
Gail turned to the Big Rewards program for extra support in accomplishing her health goals. “The program helped me stay on target and conscious of my commitment to improving my health. I welcomed the call from my health coach every two weeks. It was quite rewarding.”
Big Rewards Successes
Weight: “I lost six pounds during program.”
Cholesterol: “My total cholesterol is down.”
Diet: “I am more conscious of what I eat, especially portion sizes. I am eating less fat and more vegetables. I’m also drinking more water.”
Managing Stress
“I walk and meditate to manage stress. I try to walk for a mile at least twice a week during my lunch breaks. I started meditating six months ago after reading an article on the benefits of meditation and deep breathing.”
Must Reads
“I regularly read the Mayo Clinic Newsletter, Psychology Magazine, Weight Watchers Magazine and the Bible.”
Gail’s Suggestion
“I encourage every woman to get involved with Heart and Style and other lifestyle change programs.”
