Updating your Wardrobe for Autumn and Winter

As the weather starts to change so do our wardrobe needs. As we put the summer clothes away, this is a good opportunity to update the wardrobe, as well as to get rid of anything that we no longer need. Clothes, shoes and accessories all should be sorted through first of all. This is a good thing to do each time the season changes, as it stops clutter and unused items from building up, and if you keep on top of it, it becomes an easy job to do.

The first thing to do is to get everything out and decide if you want to keep it. Have you worn it recently (within the last twelve months)? Has it seen better days? Some things, if they are good quality and just need some minor repairs such as a replacement button are worth keeping if you know you are going to continue wearing them, especially classic pieces such as suits. But others you may want to get rid of – you can find a clothing recycling bank in your area that will be able to take them.

If there are items that you no longer wear but are in good condition, you could either sell them on a second hand clothing site or an online auction site, or you could give them to a charity shop.

Once you have done this, you will then be left with just the things that you want to keep. Use vacuum bags to store your summer items such as shorts that you won’t be using until next spring, as this will help to save space in your wardrobe. Once you have done this you can decide what items you want to add to your autumn and winter wardrobe.

It is a good idea to have a few pieces in mind before going shopping as this will stop you from making spontaneous purchases which you will usually regret. Try to find items which will go well with other things that you have in your wardrobe and go for higher quality things if you can afford to as this will fit better and last longer.

Consider the activities you do and lifestyle you lead when thinking of what you want for your autumn and winter wardrobe – if you have to spend a lot of time outdoors you are likely to look for different things than you would if you work in an office.

Don’t forget about footwear – the same rules apply; get rid of shoes that you haven’t worn in a while. Look for shoes that go well with the rest of your winter attire – this could be a pair of sturdy boots, or some Tommy Bowe shoes like these https://www.louisboyd.co.uk/footwear/brand/tommy-bowe.html

Remember to have fun and embrace your own personal style too – as well as being functional, fashion is a great way to experiment and express yourself, and looking your best helps you to also feel your best.
